Prosecutor Issues Correction In Fatal 5-Car Crash Believed Caused By Madison Woman

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has issued a correction regarding the five-car crash in Clifton on Wednesday, March 12.

While authorities initially reported that a pedestrian was killed, the victim — a 52-year-old man from Newton (Sussex County) — was later found to be the driver of a Honda Civic, one of the four vehicles struck by a 2021 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by a 35-year-old Madison woman, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi said.

Video shows the Trailblazer flying down Getty Avenue before hitting the four vehicles at Crooks just before 11:40 a.m.

The Honda driver was rushed to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.

Officials have not yet determined what led to the crash, and the investigation remains active, authorities said.
